Government firstly fixed monetary assistance to Chernobyl victims for treatment at sanatoria and health resorts
The Government has fixed amounts of financial support to victims of the Chernobyl accident to compensate for the cost of vouchers for sanatoria and rehabilitation institutions. It is envisaged by Decree of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine from December 28, 2016 No. 1029.
In particular, the amount of such assistance is as follows:
for persons category 1 (victims who have a disability related to the consequences of the Chernobyl accident and liquidators fall within this category) – UAH 5 250;
for persons category 1, having nervous system diseases (consequences of traumas and diseases of spine and spinal cord) – UAH 17 390;
for children who have disabilities as a result of the Chernobyl disaster – UAH 10 840.
Citizens will choose a health resort institution to which annual financial assitnce will be transferred. However, if the described sums appear not enough to compensate for the cost of the voucher to undergo treatment in such an institution, victims can pay the difference themselves.
"For the first time there has been applied this approach when person can freely choose a resort or vacation spot. At that, cash assistance is envisaged for such treatment," said Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman, adding it is a novelty as well.
It is worth mentioning here that prior to the adoption of the resolution victims of the Chernobyl accident of these categories would undergo a course of treatment at sanatoria or holiday facilities only in determined by tenders places. In addition, no monetary assistance to the aforesaid categories was provided.
It should
be noted that implementation of the resolution will not require additional
allocations from the state budget, because the necessary amount of money worth
UAH 123.4 mln was planned under the budget-funded
program "Social protection of citizens who suffered as a result of
Chernobyl catastrophe".
