PM: Improvement of the minimum wage, increase of incomes of domestic teachers and doctors are first steps to overcome poverty in the country
The Government
is taking its first steps in overcoming poverty in the country by the doubling of
minimum wage, increasing of wages of teachers, doctors and rescue workers. This
was stated by Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman in an interview with Ukrinform.
"What
is our greatest challenge today? The fight against poverty.
We must overcome poverty in our country. On the one hand, we need decisions on reform
on the other hand we need to understand the feelings of the people, their problems
to do the steps to overcome challenges. The improvement of the minimum wage,
increase of incomes of domestic teachers and doctors - first steps," the Head of
Government said.
Along with doubling
of minimum wage up to UAH 3200, the increase in salaries of Ukrainian teachers
by 50% and doctors by 30%, the Budget for 2017 also provides for an increase of
wages to employees of State Service for Emergency Situations, the Prime
Minister reminded.
"Rescue
worker, who tackles a fire, in other words, goes through the fire, has had a
salary of "as much as" 3 thousand of hryvnias.
And no one seemed to care. When something burns, all pray that these people
arrived on time and efficiently did the job. And then they go to the cashier,
and should receive those UAH 3000. Is that fair? - Volodymyr
Groysman said. - Now we've raised their salaries up to
slightly more than UAH 2000, and this means that we are starting to pay our
debts to the people. And we will give them on."
