Today, December 19, in Brussels First Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine Stepan Kubiv and Vice-President of the European Investment Bank Vazil Hudák signed a Memorandum of understanding between the Government of Ukraine and the European Investment Bank (EIB).
The Memorandum is aimed to enhance cooperation with the EIB and to implement relevant projects through 2017-2020 in following areas: transport, energy, municipal and environmental infrastructure, education and innovation, support for private sector development.
Now with the support of the EIB in Ukraine there have been implemented 11 projects, many of which are significant not for Ukraine alone but for the whole European community. For instance, the Beskyd tunnel, which is part of the 5th pan-European transport corridor, is being constructed with the EIB co-financing.
Apart from that, members of the Ukrainian delegation signed an Agreement on financing Project ‘Modernization of Ukrainian Railways’ and a Financing Agreement for the Project ‘Higher education. Energy Efficiency and Sustainable Development’.
“The Government is interested in the speedy implementation of the financial agreement on the project ‘Higher education. Energy efficiency’, which will allow higher educational institutions to ensure the efficient use of energy through energy saving,” said Stepan Kubiv before the signing ceremony, adding he believes that the signing of the Memorandum of understanding between the Government of Ukraine and the EIB will lay the foundation for further efficient cooperation between the parties.
