The strategy of Ukraine for the following years should be to reduce consumption and increase production of domestic gas, and it will enable us to ensure energy independence of the country in 2020. Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman said visiting an apartment building in Chernivtsi built with the use of energy efficient technologies.

"Our task is to ensure the consumption [gas] cut threefold per square meter in buildings. This is the way in 5-10 years for Ukraine. But our strategy is as follows: to consume less, to produce more. If we extract our own gas, we won't have to buy it abroad for currency. If we produce our own gas, consume less, our economy will be much stronger", said Volodymyr Groysman.

In this context, the Prime Minister noted that the use of energy efficient technologies in homes would promote energy efficiency.

Speaking about the actions of the Government to achieve energy independence, the Prime Minister reminded that the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine had introduced a market price for gas in Ukraine. Due to this, the domestic mining companies for the first time in a decade obtained an opportunity to develop new wells, to enhance exploration, to modernize the equipment".

By the end of year, gas production in Ukraine has risen by 50 million cubic meters. "It's insufficient growth, but this is only the beginning. Earlier it was only the decline," said Volodymyr Groysman.

Next year it is expected that the volume of domestic gas production in Ukrainian will reach not less than 500 million cubic meters. By 2020 Ukraine will be capable to satisfy the needs with gas extracted in Ukraine, Prime Minister emphasized.
