Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman hopes that road repair work in Ukraine planned for 2017 will begin in April. He announced during his communication with journalists in Kherson State Maritime Academy.
“I prefer next year road overhaul season to start in April. But it will depend on weather conditions. So, now the process of preparing of design specifications and estimates, projects is underway, tenders conducted and so on – everything necessary to complete all the procedures before April,” said Volodymyr Groysman, adding it is possible, but it is necessary to gear up in advance.
The Prime Minister noted that this year road repair activities in Ukraine had commenced rather late, given that after the formation of the Government and announcing a large-scale road construction it took time and effort to settle numerous problems in the road sector accumulated for decades.
"Road economy has always been used by dealers when they build a kilometer and could steal something from that. We must halt such practices," said the Prime Minister.
"The Government is currently working on prevention, and control, and the quality as well", stressed Volodymyr Groysman.
He reminded that he had recently had a meeting with representatives of contractors engaged in performing road construction work in 2016 on the motor roads of public use and warned them about the inadmissibility of violations on the construction activities.
Next year the Government plans to increase the resources for the construction and reconstruction of roads, said the Prime Minister.
The Head of Government also noted that road works can be held in different weather conditions, but it requires high efficiency in the organization of the process and technology compliance. He gave the example of European countries, in which road construction activities are held even in the winter.
In this context he stressed the importance of the responsibility of local authorities.
"My goal is to create mechanisms of financing of roads. What roads you are going to repair of what quality is the task of local authorities", summed up the Prime Minister.
