On 2
September 2016 Yurii Klymenko,
the Permanent Representative of Ukraine in Geneva met with Zeid
Ra'ad Al Hussein, the UN High Commissioner for Human
Rights.
The topical
issues of the cooperation between Ukraine and the Office of the High
Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) were discussed, in particular in the
context of the activity of the United Nations Human Rights Monitoring Mission
in Ukraine (HRMMU) and the 33rd session of the UN Human Rights Council (HRC) to
be held in Geneva from 13 to 30 September this year. In this connection, due
attention was paid to the upcoming interactive dialogue based on the 15th OHCHR
report on the human rights situation in Ukraine to be held on 27
September pursuant to the HRC resolution 32/29 in the framework of
the abovementioned session.
The sides
agreed that recent extension of the mandate of the HRMMU for another 6 months
is the proof of the Ukrainian Government’s disposition to continue tight
cooperation.
The issue
of the High Commissioner's visit to Ukraine was also discussed.
The
Permanent Representative called on the High Commissioner to properly react on
politically motivated persecution of Deputy Chairman of the Mejlis
of the Crimean Tatar people I.Umerov, and use of the
methods of "punitive psychiatry" against him by the occupation
authorities of the Russian Federation. The Ukrainian side has been informed
that the OHCHR is keeping the case in the focus of its attention.
