Prime
Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman hopes that the European Union will
maintain its unity and commitment to European, democratic values, despite the
results of the referendum in the UK.
"Today
is not the best day for the united Europe. We know the results of the
referendum held in Great Britain. Of course, we take these results with great
respect to the citizens of Great Britain, but I still believe in the fact that
the European Union will maintain its unity through the unity of the European
peoples," stated Volodymyr Groysman, opening a Government’s session on
Friday, 24 June.
"I am
deeply convinced that European values, which unite Europe today, are more
important than any local interests," he pointed out.
The Prime
Minister expressed hope that the situation with the exit of the UK from the
European Union would be settled.
However,
Ukrainians are still committed to European democratic values, Volodymyr
Groysman underlined.
"We
have gained through suffering our European choice, are paying a heavy price for
it, and now our soldiers are defending the eastern borders of the European
Union. That’s why I deeply believe that these values will
continue to unite us. I am sure that Ukraine will continue to fight for a united, strong Europe and
the Ukrainians will play a key role and undoubtedly will provide new energy to European
integration processes," he stressed.
