On 15 June, Vice-Prime Minister Viacheslav Kyrylenko, Minister of Education Lilia Hrynevych, Deputy Minister of Finance Serhii Marchenko met with representatives of scientific community, in particular with Head of labour union of the National Academy of Science of Ukraine Anatolii Shyrokov, First Vice-President of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine Yurii Kundiev etc. The meeting was devoted to the funding problems of scientific institutions and finding ways how to resolve it.

The Ministry of Finance cooperates with the Ministry of Education, Chiefs of scientific institutions, representatives of labour unions of the National Academy of Science and public organizations in order to elaborate a comprehensive reforming strategy of education which contributes to the modernization of funding system for education.

The Ministry of Finance supports the position regarding the necessity to allocate sufficient funding from the state budget which contributes to the development of Ukrainian science. At the same time, the Ministry of Education together with the National Academy of Science elaborate proposals to increase efficiency of activity at scientific institutions. The top-priority measure of improving efficiency is to determine the real academic potential of institutions, to avoid research dublication, to carry out international audit of scientific system and the state attestation of scientific institutions.

The next step to solve funding issues of Ukrainian science will be the initiation of round tables with participation of scientists, representatives of the state authorities and public sector.
