In the framework
of his visit to the United States, on Wednesday, June 15, Prime Minister of
Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman
met with Leader of the Republican majority in the U.S. House of Representatives
Kevin McCarthy. The parties discussed reforms in Ukraine and the situation in Donbas.
The Prime
Minister expressed his condolences to the American people in connection with
the Orlando terrorist attack. "Please accept our condolences on this
tragic loss. Unfortunately, we also almost every day feel what loss of human
lives means," he pointed out.
Volodymyr Groysman noted that this is his first international visit
as Prime Minister of Ukraine. According to him, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine
is committed to making changes in the country. "The Government of Ukraine
is absolutely committed to carrying out reforms and transformations in our
country," he highlighted.
The Prime
Minister told his interlocutor about priority steps of the Government.
"Our main task is to ensure macroeconomic stability," he stressed. Volodymyr Groysman informed that
the Government had launched a range of essential steps, including large-scale
privatization of state-owned enterprises, customs reform, continuing energy
sector reform.
Also, the
Government has to create a favorable business climate in Ukraine, ensure reform
and sustainability of the tax system, continue further
deregulation of the economy. "We want investment in Ukraine be successful
because it is also the success of Ukraine," he said.
Volodymyr Groysman recalled that the Verkhovna
Rada of Ukraine had adopted the "historic
decision" by adopting constitutional amendments in the judicial sector, approved
by the Venice Commission.
The interlocutors
also discussed the situation in Donbas, the issue of sanctions against the
Russian Federation, as well as the implementation of the Minsk agreements. Volodymyr Groysman emphasized the
need for unity in opposition to the Russian military aggression and the
protection of democratic values.
The Prime
Minister also underlined the threats because of the occupation of Crimea.
"Crimea is a Russian military base located on the occupied territory of
Ukraine. It is a threat, this needs to be understood," he emphasized.
Separately Volodymyr Groysman raised the
issue of police mission in Donbas. "This is the right decision in order to
ensure peace, elections and reintegration of the territory," he said.
The Prime
Minister of Ukraine thanked for the support of the United States to Ukraine and
stressed its importance. "We appreciate your support, particularly in the
defense sector," he pointed out.
