The Minister of Information Policy of Ukraine Yurii Stets met with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the French Republic in Ukraine Ms. Isabelle Dumont.

During the meeting, the sides discussed important issues in the field of information policy, existing threats to information security of the state, and stressed the need to reform media legislation of Ukraine.

The Minister of Information Policy of Ukraine Yurii Stets said: "Today, it is important for us to amend media legislation in a way to make it effective, and in line with the European standards. Threats of information warfare, that we have encountered, are unique and require a response; at the same time, we have to find a balance between protecting the interests of the state and observance of freedom of speech and the right to the profession of a journalist. One thing is to write such laws and another is a culture of their execution. I think Your experience here will be of value to us".

In turn, her Excellency Ms. Dumont stressed the importance of cooperation in the field of information policy between the two states, in particular, the need for experience exchange on implementation and development of the international broadcasting system.

"France already has some experience in the development of the system of international broadcasting as a means of realizing the interests of the state. I think that we will be able to establish cooperation in this sphere in the nearest future", said the Ambassador.

In addition, Yurii Stets said that one of the priorities for MIP this year is to develop a system of strategic communication in the state and the government communication reform. "We're doing everything to establish a dialogue between the government and the society. Only open and consistent communications will give the opportunity to build the necessary confidence to the government and will create support for the reforms", said the head of the Ministry.
