The Ministry of Regional Development, Construction, Housing and Utilities of Ukraine supports the drive to introduce the European Energy Award in Ukraine at the national level. This was announced by Deputy Minister of Regional Development, Construction, Housing and Utilities of Ukraine Eduard Kruglyak on March 17 during a working meeting with representatives of the Swiss Cooperation Office.
He also noted that such projects are extremely urgent for Ukraine, as they contribute to the delivery of one of the main tasks the Ukrainian Government had set which is cutting gas consumption.
During the
meeting the parties discussed a draft
agreement between the Ministry of Regional Development of Ukraine and
the International Office European Energy Award on the implementation of the European Energy Award project
in Ukraine. On the outcomes of the discussion it
was agreed to meet in April of this year, as experts of the Ministry of Regional
Development, Construction, Housing and Utilities consider the document requires a more detailed
study and certain work to
complete it.
In 2015, Vinnytsia became
the first EEA-certified city in Ukraine. Additionally, SECO is preparing a
similar project with the City of Zhytomyr.
It should be noted
that the European Energy Award supports municipalities willing to contribute to
sustainable energy policy and urban development through the rational use of
energy and increased use of renewable energies.
