"Nord stream-2 should be blocked. It poses a threat to national and energy security of Ukraine and a number of member States of the European Union. We will remain a reliable transit country and are confident that our European partners are ready to support Ukraine and truly European principles of energy independence," stressed Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk on Tuesday, February 16, at the Parliament during the Government's report on its activities for 2015.
Arseniy Yatsenyuk called the construction of the second line of the Nord Stream gas pipeline "one of the biggest risks".
"The Russian target is as follows: to sell for scrap the Ukrainian gas transport system, to bypass Ukraine, to deprive Ukraine, Slovakia and Poland of billions of dollars of income from gas transit and actually create another monopoly in the energy market of the European Union", stressed the Head of Government.
The Prime Minister reminded that he had publicly appealed to the European partners to resist the project Nord Stream-2.
A number of countries-EU members have criticized the construction of the Nord Stream-2, he recalled. The European Commission began to consider the feasibility of this project.
"Nord Stream-2 should be stopped. This is a threat to national and energy security of Ukraine and a number of member States of the European Union," Arseniy Yatsenyuk stressed.
The Ukrainian gas transport system has a modernized network and can leverage investment from Western countries: "It is the shortest and cheapest way of transporting gas to member countries of the European Union. And we have proved in recent years that Ukraine is a reliable transit country. We will remain a reliable transit country and are confident that our European partners are ready to support Ukraine and truly European principles of energy independence", summed up the Prime Minister of Ukraine.
