The
Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has ratified an Agreement between the Government of Ukraine and the European
Commission on Ukraine's participation in EU programme Creative Europe.
According to Vice
Prime Minister/Minister of Culture of Ukraine Viacheslav Kyrylenko, Creative Europe is aimed at supporting culture and audiovisual
sector initiatives, thus promoting cross-border cooperation, platforms,
networking, and literary translation and the development, distribution, or
access to audiovisual works among the countries of Europe. The present stage will
last till 2020, the participants of which can be candidates to enter the EU as well as countries which were the signatories
to the framework agreement. The programme consists of two
sub-programmes: the Culture and the Media with a budget of around €1.5 billion.
Following ratification and passing all necessary procedures, Ukraine will have
an access to financial support for implementation of projects along 18 various
directions.
It is planned
soon to establish a coordinating body to perform the functions of the National Programme Office the activity of which will be
supervised by the public.
