On January 19, Foreign Minister of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin held a meeting with Michele Nicoletti, rapporteur of the Political Affairs Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE).
Minister informed Michele Nicoletti about the latest developments in the Donbas and the steps taken by the Ukrainian side on implementation of the Minsk agreements. Parties also discussed the situation with the violations of human rights in temporary occupied Autonomous Republic of Crimea and Ukrainian citizens, illegally detained in Russia, including the PACE’s member Nadiia Savchenko.
Pavlo Klimkin called on the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe to continue the pressure on the Russian Federation to respect its commitments under the international organizations, including the Council of Europe and bilateral agreements.
The parties discussed the process of internal reforms aimed at further development of democratic society in Ukraine. It was noted a significant contribution of the Council of Europe in the process of reforming our state in accordance with best European practices.
