From 1 January 2016, Russia will ban import of certain agricultural
products, raw materials and food from Ukraine. The Ministry of Agrarian Policy
of Ukraine stresses that today the volume of exports of agricultural products
to the Russian Federation makes up not more than 2% out of the total amount of
exported agricultural products. The turnover of agricultural products between
Ukraine and Russia for 10 months of this year has decreased by about 70% (by
more than USD1 billion) in comparison to the same period last year. China,
India and a number of other countries ousted Russia from the top 10 importers
of Ukrainian products.
Russian trade embargo applies to meat and meat products, fish, dairy
products, vegetables, fruit and nuts, bakery goods, Minister of Agrarian Policy
and Food Oleksii Pavlenko
wrote on his «Facebook» page.
"These groups of products account for 46% (or USD116 million) in
our agricultural exports to the Russian Federation. The share of agricultural
products forbidden by Russia in general exports, which for the ten months
amounted to $11.6 billion, is a mere 1%," the Minister pointed out.
The Minister said that in January-October this year Ukrainian exports of
agricultural products to Russia decreased by 73%, to USD253.8 million.
According to the official, the exports of condensed milk, butter, eggs,
finished or canned fish and shellfish goods, grains, oilseeds, sugar
confectionery to Russia have been fully stopped.
Oleksii Pavlenko
noted that other groups of goods to be exported from Ukraine to the Russian
Federation will be subject to duties agreed by Russia within the WTO.
