Declaration adopted at WTO ministerial conference is advantageous for Ukraine
Deputy
Minister of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy of Ukraine for European Integration
Vladyslava Rutytska thus
commented on the results of the WTO Ministerial Conference in Nairobi at a
briefing at the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine.
“We
primarily mean the ban on the use of export subsidies in agriculture. The
Ukrainian delegation in Nairobi was strongly supporting this position. And this
is a decisive victory of Ukraine. Such a decision will make the country’s
agricultural export more competitive. I dare note that this step will not only
bring quick results but in 5 years we will be able to see the positive effect
(especially this will affect meat and dairy products),” Vladyslava
Rutytska recited.
Moreover,
the Deputy Minister stressed that at the moment what Ukraine needed was to
deepen bilateral relations with potential partners and to gain access to new
markets. First of all, this applies to the Middle East, North Africa and Asia.
Nataliia Mykolska, the Deputy Minister of Economic Development and
Trade of Ukraine, Trade Representative of Ukraine, noted that the most
intensive negotiations on FTA were underway with 2 countries.
“One of
them is Turkey, which is ready to work in this direction, in particular, in
order to increase the trade turnover. The second country is Israel, which by
the results of the negotiations proved quite a positive attitude and
willingness to work intensively on the Agreement. This means that the parties
are ready to discuss any and all matters of market access,” Nataliia
Mykolska outlined.
“Today,
Ukraine continues to move towards establishing FTA with a number of countries.
We have carried out huge work at bilateral meetings. We discussed the issue of
establishing efficient trade relations with Israel and Turkey. These markets
are extremely important for Ukrainian exporters of grains and oilseeds. We
discussed with representatives of the official Ankara the matter of replacement
of Russian products with the Ukrainian ones. To summarize – today we are laying
the foundation for future qualitative growth”, the Deputy Minister added.
