Ukraine has
reduced the dependence on the Russian Federation, by cutting the volume of
purchases of natural gas as compared to last year, more than twofold. Minister
of Energy and Coal Industry Volodymyr Demchyshyn told
during a public report of the Gov’t members belonging
to the economic bloc to inform about the implementation of the Action Programme for the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine.
"In 2014 we
bought 14 billion cubic meters of gas from Russia, while this year – less than
6 billion cubic meters", said Volodymyr Demchyshyn.
He also informed
that in 2016 Ukraine planned to receive up to 40% of nuclear fuel from Europe.
"We have signed a contract with Westinghouse, have signed an agreement
with Areva, and we are engaged in diversifying
nowadays. During 2016 the amount of 40% of nuclear fuel will be imported from
the European countries", stressed the Minister.
"A lot has
been achieved during the year to ensure successful passing of the heating
season and to stabilize the system," Minister Volodymyr Demchyshyn said.
