"Beginning from
the next year, funding of political parties in Ukraine will be exclusively from
the state budget of Ukraine. If political parties receive any shadow financing,
their leaders will be held criminally responsible for political corruption,"
Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk
emphasised at the International Anti-Corruption Conference
“Preventing. Fighting. Acting” on Monday, 16 November.
"First of
all, the basis of corruption is rooted in policy," said Arseniy Yatsenyuk.
There are two pieces of news regarding
political corruption in Ukraine, he noted:"First, the good one - any of
the oligarchs has no influence on the Government of Ukraine. But the other piece
of news is not so good: unfortunately, the Ukrainian Parliament still has representatives of the big business, which have no Ukrainian
interest, but narrow interest of a business group."
To solve this
problem, Arseniy Yatsenyuk recalled, the Government had submitted to the Parliament a
bill on public funding of political parties, and an appropriate law was passed:
"Beginning from the next year, funding of political parties in Ukraine
will be exclusively from the state budget of Ukraine. If political parties
receive any shadow financing, their leaders will be held criminally responsible
for political corruption."
