Arseniy Yatsenyuk urges the need to turn Prosecutor's office into a fully independent and impartial authority following establishment of SBI
"The
Public Prosecutor's office has to share certain powers with the National Bureau of
Investigation.
This is a new, fully independent body. At the next stage we should turn Prosecutor's office into a fully independent and impartial authority", stressed Prime Minister of
Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk at a meeting with Desmond Swayne,
Minister
of State at the Department for International Development of the
United Kingdom on Thursday, November 12.
He
noted that the relevant act had been adopted today in the Verkhovna Rada.
"I
appreciate a very bond move of members of the Ukrainian Parliament to make Ukraine closer to the
EU",
said Arseniy Yatsenyuk,
commenting on the supported today by the Parliament changes to the Ukrainian Labour Code concerning the harmonization of legislation with the EU law.
During the meeting,
Desmond Swayne confirmed the willingness
of the British Government to provide comprehensive assistance in the
implementation of democratic reforms in Ukraine and counteraction to the
Russian aggression.
Arseniy Yatsenyuk noted
the importance of the support provided by the British partners to
our country and accentuated the EU and the US should preserve unity to help Ukraine solve pressing
issues.
The meeting concerned promising
directions of bilateral cooperation, in particular, reform of the customs
service of Ukraine, tax authorities, assistance in establishing a system of
strategic communications.
The interlocutors also tackled
the peaceful settlement in the East of the country and the needs of internally
displaced persons in Ukraine.
