Arseniy Yatsenyuk: Gov't sets social gas quota at 200 cubic meters for UAH3,600 for every household using gas for heating
The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine in accordance
with authority within the new law on the gas market is making a decision to
provide a social quota of 200 cubic meters of gas at a price of UAH3,600 for every household using natural gas for heating. This
is twice lower than the market price of natural gas, which amounts now 7,188 hryvnias, Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy
Yatsenyuk stated at a government meeting on
Wednesday, 30 September.
"The
Government will compensate the difference in price at the expense of the state
budget," stressed Arseniy Yatsenyuk.
He has noted that
the new law of Ukraine on the gas market will come into force from 1 October.
This law, reminded Arseniy Yatsenyuk, provides the Government with the appropriate authority "on how to help families in need due to the fact that prices and tariffs on energy resources have become European and meet market conditions": "The Cabinet Ministers have the opportunity to take a special decision on the sale of gas for the population at a price determined by the Government, but only if the Government finds the resources to compensate such an understated price at the expense of the state budget."
