At Bucharest
Summit 2008 it was made clear that NATO’s doors are open to Ukraine: "I
hope that at the summit to be held in Warsaw next year, it will be also
supported by concrete decisions," Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk emphasised
following a meeting with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg in Kyiv.
The Prime
Minister stressed that the position of the NATO member states "was crucial
in terms of support and protection of territorial integrity, independence and sovereignty
of the Ukrainian state": "NATO and Alliance member states were almost
the first who condemned the Russian military aggression against Ukraine, the
illegal annexation of Crimea and military intervention
in Donetsk and Luhansk by Russian aggressors."
