Arseniy Yatsenyuk claims personal responsibility of the Minister for failure to properly use the allocated funds
"The
Ministry of Energy disrupted the implementation of a number of points of the
order concerning the preparation for the autumn-winter period," Prime
Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk stated on Monday, September 14, prior to
trainings in case of emergency situations in the power system of SE NPC Ukrenergo.
The Prime
Minister informed that he held a meeting of the energy staff on preparation for
the autumn-winter period.
He stressed that first
of all this is about the accumulation of coal resources at stations: "The
Government has allocated UAH 2 billion of resources and an additional billion
from the state company Energorynok (Energy market -
ed.) to accumulate coal in storage facilities. These funds were not used. And I put it on the
personal responsibility of the Minister of Energy."
Arseniy Yatsenyuk
underlined: "The Government’s directive should be executed immediately. By the end of the month basic
figures regarding the coal accumulation in storage facilities should comply
with the schedule."
This issue
also concerns those state-owned enterprises that generate electricity and that must ensure the
stability and sustainability of the Ukrainian electricity system," the
Prime Minister underlined.
Arseniy Yatsenyuk pointed out that this week he
would receive an independent report, "that is happening in the energy
sector and which further steps to be taken": "I am not just concerned
about the situation in the energy sector, especially in the electrical - I
demand to take urgent actions by the Ministry and state-owned companies in order to ensure
energy supply stability, both to industry and citizens of the country."
He also informed
that today Ukrenergo as the main control point of the
country, will host trainings on how to act in case of emergency situations in
the power system, "The company has developed a
number of energy supply plans, including in case of an emergency."
These plans,
according to the Head of the Government, were developed with the support of
leading experts sent by the governments of member states of the European Union,
Canada and the United States.
