On Tuesday, September 1, in the
framework of a working visit to Odessa, Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy
Yatsenyuk visited the festivities dedicated to the start of the new academic
year in the Odessa Military Academy.
Arseniy Yatsenyuk appealed to the students: "Today the Ukrainian children go to school to gain new knowledge, to explore a new way to the peaceful life. Without your Academy and without each of you it would be impossible for Ukrainian parents today to take their children to school. You are defending the Ukrainian state, peace and security of each family. You are those people who stand at the basement of Ukrainian statehood and defend our territorial integrity and sovereignty".
The Prime Minister stressed that this year among the freshmen of the Military Academy are 132 participants of the anti-terror operation – "those soldiers, who are defending Ukraine with arms in their hands and who have done everything possible to ensure the Day of knowledge – September 1 is celebrated in Ukraine ".
"We are marking not just the day of knowledge. Today it is the day of military knowledge," he stressed. "War has changed, now it is quite different from the Second World War and other military conflicts. Russian military intervention has established a new type of war, which is called hybrid. It's not just the weapons, tanks and shooting. The hybrid war means a set of intelligence, information measures, undermining the economy. The hybrid war implies, in particular, a psychological war unleashed by the Russian invaders," said the Head of Government. He highlighted that neither country in the world “today is at war with a nuclear state, which is the Russian Federation": "It was Russia that started this aggression and it was each of you, our Ukrainian soldiers, who stopped the Russian aggression and preserved Ukraine as an independent state". Arseniy Yatsenyuk appealed to the cadets: "I want to thank you on behalf of the Government, and on behalf of each Ukrainian family. Everyone of you has a very deep and very confident glance. Each of you is a strong personality." "Our strength doesn’t just mean weapons, advanced technologies, military ranks and the knowledge you obtain at the Military Academy. The power of Ukraine is in everyone of you. In your inner spirit, confidence, unity and our shared belief that we will conquer the enemy, Ukraine will restore the territorial integrity and victory will be ours," said the Prime Minister. Arseniy Yatsenyuk together with Minister of Defence of Ukraine Stepan Poltorak bestowed eleven awards to the cadets of the Military Academy, in particular, the distinctive insignia of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine "For military valor", "Badge of honor" and "For exemplary service".
