The Government has submitted to the Parliament a draft law, according to which the excise tax on imported petroleum products has to be sent directly to the Road Fund. This was stated by Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk on Sunday, August 23, in Lviv.

"If we want to have quality roads in Ukraine, we need to change road facilities completely," Arseniy Yatsenyuk said.

The Prime Minister said that Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine Andrii Pyvovarskyi has already initiated a reform of "Ukravtodor".

Moreover, Arseniy Yatsenyuk stressed that the Government introduced to the Parliament a bill that provides for formation of the Road Fund: “the source of revenue is the excise tax on imported petroleum products, which should be targeted directly to the Road Fund (60% for national roads, 40% for local roads)”.

Arseniy Yatsenyuk expressed hope for the speedy adoption of the bill by the Verkhovna Rada.

He reminded that this year the Government of Ukraine has allocated 4 billion UAH for the repair of roads.

The Prime Minister noted that a public bidding for the repair of motor road H-09 has been held, "it turns out, if we hold transparent tenders, once the cost per km is very cheaper. When a few years the dollar exchange rate was UAH 5, kilometer of road cost UAH 5 million - a million dollars. And now it costs 5 million, although the rate of USD another".
