Statement of the MFA of Ukraine in view of the decision by the Council of the European Union to extend the sanctions against Russia
We welcome the
decision by the EU Council to extend until January 31, 2016, sanctions against the Russiam
Federation imposed in connection with the direct involvement of the Russian
side to the escalation of the security situation in the east of Ukraine.
This decision has once again demonstrated the solidarity of
the European Union with our state, its commitment to the protection of the territorial integrity and independence
of Ukraine.
The entire
civilized world and the EU in particular call on the Russian Federation to
observe the obligations under the Minsk agreements to cease the supply of weapons,
ammunition and mercenaries, thus promoting respect for the ceasefire, and influence
Russia-controlled fighters. Only
the full implementation by Russia of all its obligations can be a condition for
the revision of the sanction regime.
The Ukrainian
side adheres to the position that in case of further escalation of the
situation or continuous neglect by Moscow of international law and its committments, the international
community should strengthen sanctionsand other pressure on the Russian
Federation.
The Minsk agreements will be considered implemented only
when Ukraine retakes the full control over the Ukrainian-Russian border, the situation in Donbas stabilizes, and it returns under Ukrainian
jurisdiction. This is the common stand of Ukraine, the European Union and the
whole civilized world.
