Infrastructure Ministry fully supports the privatization of stevedoring operations in Ukraine
The
Infrastructure Ministry fully supports the privatization of stevedoring
operations in Ukraine, Infrastructure Minister of Ukraine Andrii
Pyvovarsky said at a briefing in Odesa,
on Tuesday.
He noted that
this was not about the privatization of seaports, but of stevedoring
state-owned companies.
According
to Andrii Pyvovarsky, the
privatization of stevedoring operations in Ukraine would allow making our
stevedoring operations more competitive, this would allow employees of the
companies to get larger salaries and have higher social standards. During the
privatization the country would receive billions of dollars of investment, he
added.
"Now I
speak not only about how much will be paid for a stevedoring company, but I
speak about what investment will be made in the development of terminals. This
could bring from USD1 billion to USD1.2 billion of investment to Ukraine, if a
tender to privatize state-run stevedores is announced. These are new technologies, new jobs and new
taxes," he highlighted.
