Arseniy Yatsenyuk visits language camp in Kyiv region

Onhttp://www.kmu.gov.ua/img/1x1.gif Friday, May 29, Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk visited Schaslyve educational complex which locates a summer volunteer language camp for children.

A project of summer language camps was launched by the Ministry of Education and Science all around Ukraine. It aims to raise the level of English language proficiency among pupils of all country schools, to raise interest of children, to trigger the trend to study foreign languages in Ukraine, to draw public attention to this topic.

Presently the summer language camps have been planned to launch in over 1,700 schools. These camps provide an opportunity for over 30 thousand children to learn the language.

To train children in summer language camps there have agreed local voluntary organizations, teachers of foreign languages. By now 440 students from 23 higher educational institutions expressed a desire to work in summer language camps.

Apart from that, certain international voluntary organizations offered their assistance: the U.S. Peace Corps in Ukraine, the CACTUS program, European Voluntary Service, the Union Forum.

The Prime Minister attended a class of the language camp, which was conducted by the volunteers Heteli Henlet from the USA and Tatiana Pryhoda, and personally took part in this lesson.

Arseniy Yatsenyuk stressed that free communication in foreign languages is "the best way to overcome any barriers and any borders".

"A language is not just a means of communication. It is a source to gain knowledge and new information. This is what the European integration means. This is the way to the future", he added.

Answering the question of how he learned English, Arseniy Yatsenyuk noted that among the best ways of language learning are communication, television, books and movies in a foreign language.

The Prime Minister noted the importance to raise an education level in educational institutions of Ukraine "to correspond the level of education in Europe, the leading world countries”: "Knowledge is the strongest asset. This is what develops the country and ensures our European future. Knowledge, intelligence, our confidence, hard work and the belief that we are following the right way".
