PM urges NERC to fine and deprive of licenses regional gas companies that fail to provide citizens with free meters
"I am urging
the National Commission for Energy Regulation and Utilities to deprive of licenses
and fine those regional gas companies that fail to fulfill their functions and provide
citizens of Ukraine with free meters," Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk highlighted at a
Government meeting on Wednesday, May 27.
The Prime
Minister recalled that he had several times given orders to Minister of Energy
and Coal Industry of Ukraine Volodymyr Demchyshyn "to make regional gas companies begin to set
counters for their costs, as provided by law."
"Subsidies and energy efficiency - our response to market prices and tariffs
in the energy sector. These answers we
have to give till the end of the year. Less
energy consumption and payment only for that service that you receive," he
stressed.
The Prime
Minister stressed that "desire to introduce subsidies and assist citizens should
be not only at the level of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, but at the
local one": "Any good idea that comes from the top,
can be destroyed by its failure at the local level. People
perceive not what we are talking about here, but attitude towards them of the
service of social protection, regional gas or power companies."
"We need to make our public service and those who deal with helping the low-income and grant subsidies, treat people like human beings. Nobody will believe in reform, unless people feel it on themselves," Arseniy Yatsenyuk said.
