Arseniy Yatsenyuk: The best Marshall plan is investment into the economy of Ukraine
“We are not just begging for cash - give us another loan to repay us the
previous ones. It won’t work. The best Marshall plan is investments into
Ukraine,” highlighted Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk on April 28
during the International Support for Ukraine conference.
He stressed the Government of Ukraine truly
appreciates the support from all our partners: the USA, Canada, G7 states – “all
those who contributed into the future of Ukraine”.
According to the Prime Minister, it is necessary
now “to weather the budget storm”: “We have done a lot in order to close the
fiscal gap in order to present a realistic budget in the Parliament, in order
to balance the fiscal stance of Ukraine”.
However, to boost an economic growth it is crucial to draw investment into
Ukrainian economy: “The best Marshall plan in this particular case – please, investment into Ukraine”.
Arseniy Yatsenyuk singled out among the promising investment areas an
energy sector. He reminded the previous year the Parliament of Ukraine had approved
a law enabling the EU and the USA- based companies to invest into Ukrainian
GTS.
Attracting of this kind of investors into modernization and exploitation
of Ukrainian GTS will trigger forming “a new type of energy policy”: “It is great
the EU has launched an anti-monopoly investigation into Gazprom.
Ukraine did the same. But the best thing is to form a new energy map of Europe”.
According to Arseniy Yatsenyuk, another key area for foreign investments
is Ukrainian agriculture: “We can produce pure and competitive agricultural
products”.
Moreover, the PM stressed the need to implement joint educational programs
with the EU: “We expect it will bring “a higher IQ” – to move the country
forward, to carry out necessary reforms and be more competitive in the world”.
“We really need a Marshall plan. And I believe this conference is the first step in drafting a large-scale comprehensive plan for
Ukraine and for our joint success”.
