PM: Gov't proposes to Parliament to set bail for corrupt officials tenfold the amount of damage caused to state
The Government of
Ukraine will offer the Verkhovna Rada
of Ukraine to consider increasing the amount of bail for persons suspected of
corruption - to tenfold the amount of damage caused to the state. Some
categories of crimes will provide for no bail at all.
The Prime
Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk
has stated this at a visiting session of the Government at the National Academy
of Internal Affairs on Saturday, April 4.
Arseniy Yasenyuk has informed that the Cabinet of Ministers is to
consider an issue on amendments to the Criminal Procedure legislation
"with a view to prevent corrupt officials, who pulled from the state’s
pocket hundreds of millions of hryvnias, from being
set free on bail."
"The
Government of Ukraine will offer the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine to consider increasing the amount of bail
for persons suspected of corruption - to tenfold the amount of damage caused to
the state. Some
categories of crimes will foresee no bail," the Prime Minister has emphasized.
He has also informed
that the meeting of the Government will address four bills aimed at reforming
the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, "This is a framework bill on
the Internal Affairs, the National Police as well as two laws that will further
regulate the activity of internal affairs bodies and the new European quality of Ukraine’s
law enforcement in general."
Arseniy Yatsenyuk has congratulated the cadets of the National
Academy of Internal Affairs. He
has underlined that the students are the future of a new Ukrainian police to be
set up by the Government: "They will head combating corruption in the
country as well as protection of Ukrainian citizens from attacks on their lives
and property in order to make everybody feel free and safe in our country."
At today's
meeting the Government is to consider an issue on setting a UAH30.000 salary for
investigators engaged in the most important cases of the Interior Ministry-
"for every investigator who is investigating the most difficult, the most
high-profile case."
This, according
to the Head of the Government, "will enable investigators to work
effectively and will enable us to uncover and combat criminal cases including
corruption in the system of internal affairs."
