Through March 17-19, 2015, director of the Legal and International Affairs Department of the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources of Ukraine Volodymyr Buchko participated in the thirty-third session of the Implementation Committee, whose objective was to review compliance by the Parties with their obligations under the Convention on Environmental Impact Assessment in a Transboundary Context (Espoo Convention).

The aim of the Convention is the focus on the environmental factors at an early stage of the decision-making process, by applying the impact assessment on the environment, at all appropriate administrative levels, as a necessary tool to improve the quality of information provided to the authorities so that they could make environmentally grounded decisions, which, in particular, could take into account the need to minimize significant adverse actions, namely in the transboundary framework.

Participation in the work of the Implementation Committee of the Espoo Convention allows for a more effective cooperation with the parties to the Convention and effectively protect the interests of the state.
