January 30, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine had a telephone conversation with President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe http://www.kmu.gov.ua/img/1x1.gifAnne Brasseur.

The Foreign Minister of Ukraine expressed gratitude to the President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe for the support of the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine and attention to the fate of people who are suffering as a result of actions of illegal armed groups in eastern Ukraine, she expressed in her speech during a session of the Assembly on January 26, 2015.

In the context of the adopted by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe on 28 January, 2015, Resolution 2034 Challenge, on substantive grounds, of the still unratified credentials of the delegation of the Russian Federation, and as a result the Russian delegation was again deprived of voting rights in the Assembly and other rights under this institution, it was emphasized that Ukraine stands for a political dialogue, but will never be tolerant of violations of the basic principles of the Council of Europe.

Moreover, the Minister expressed gratitude to the President of the PACE for the call to release Nadiya Savchenko, and uttered hope the Assembly would draw attention to this issue in the future to facilitate it to be resolved as soon as possible.

P. Klimkin focused separately on the illegal detention by the Russian occupation authorities of Deputy Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People Ahtem Chiygoz on January 29, 2015, in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea. It was stressed that Ukraine takes this act as another case of terrible persecution and repression against the Crimean Tatar national minority by the Russian occupation authorities and the violation of international law and principles of the Council of Europe.

The Ukrainian Foreign Minister urged the President of the Council of Europe’s Parliamentary Assembly to assess the specified unlawful actions.
