PM believes Russia must answer for crimes against Ukrainian citizens, world order and security in Europe and the world

"To make the Russian Federation and the Russian regime answerable is a matter of our responsibility to the people of Ukraine," Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk emphasized at a government meeting on Wednesday, January 28.

Arseniy Yatsenyuk underlined that Ukraine has initiated the process of bringing to justice the Russian Federation in international courts for a breach of the UN Convention for the Suppression of the Financing of Terrorism: "Russia is a state-aggressor and sponsor of terrorism in Ukraine."

The Prime Minister reported that last week it was held a first round of technical consultations prior to submission of the relevant claims to the UN International Court of Justice.

He recalled that he had appealed to the leadership of the Internal Ministry and Security Service of Ukraine to collect evidence of the involvement of the Russian Federation to the financing of terrorism "after the terrible events in Mariupol, when Russian terrorists killed and wounded civilians": "Evidence of the involvement of the Russian Federation to the funding of terrorism and bringing Russia to justice at the UN International Court of Justice - calmly, clearly, step-by-step and toughly. Russia has to answer for crimes against Ukraine, against Ukrainian citizens, against the world order, peace, stability and security in Europe and across the world."

Arseniy Yatsenyuk also reminded that the Ukrainian side had filed two lawsuits to bring to justice to bring the Russian Federation to justice at the European Court of Human Rights. He appealed to the Ministry of Justice and Ministry of Foreign Affairs: "This is a matter of our responsibility to the people of Ukraine – to bring it to an end and make the Russian Federation and the Russian regime answerable."
