On Saturday, January 10, Prime Minister of
Ukraine received the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Latvia Edgars Rinkevics, who visited Kyiv as a representative of the
Latvian presidency in the Council of the European Union.
The Prime Minister outlined the priority issues
for Ukraine
for cooperation with the EU in the near future: macro-financial assistance, the
implementation of the Association Agreement, progress towards a visa-free
regime with the EU.
Arseniy Yatsenyuk also noted the importance of
strong joint action with the EU to overcome the effects of the Russian
aggression in Ukraine.
The Prime Minister stressed that the implementation by Russia of all points of
the Minsk agreement remains the only tool to de-escalate the conflict, which
threatens the security of all Europe, because prepared and well-armed
terrorists, including from Chechnya, which are a source of danger to other
European countries, stay on the territories, temporarily not controlled by the
Central authorities.
Therefore, Arseniy Yatsenyuk stressed that Ukraine and the EU should work together to
ensure that Russia will
fulfill the Minsk agreement: first of all, it must
to recover control over the Ukrainian-Russian border; Russian troops must leave
Ukrainian territory and it must stop arming of terrorists managed by the Russia.
