PM calls on judges and House to prevent the lustration law from destroying

"Implementation of the law on lustration is a key task. We have undertaken this task to perform and we’re carrying it out," Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk stressed at a government meeting on Wednesday, November 26, summing up the nine-month work of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine.

Arseniy Yatsenyuk said that the Parliament had adopted "one of the toughest anti-corruption legislation, analogues to which it is hard to find even among the EU member states", "I would call it a pilot anti-corruption package, because it is difficult to find in other countries such stringent measures against corruption like those introduced by this law. Now our task is to implement this law."

He stressed that the Government would continue to implement the law "not on paper, but by concrete actions": "Implementation of the law means concrete criminal cases, concrete officials who would be in jail. This means that lifestyle meets the declaration. If these two things do not match, officials will be fired. This is real actions."

The Prime Minister has underlined that the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine performs the law on purification of power. There were two stages of checks. The first one saw about 40 executive senior officials dismissed, and the second - about 500 persons.

He has stressed the need for further implementation of the law on cleaning power by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine as well as by law enforcement and judicial system, "which has begun to fight against the law on lustration."

"I appeal to the judges and the House to prevent the Ukraine’s law on lustration from destroying, because the judicial system as well, and perhaps even more, needs to be cleaned up than other branches of government," Arseniy Yatsenyuk emphasized.
