Arseniy Yatsenyuk expects the Verkhovna Rada to approve on Tuesday law on Public Prosecutor's Office to comply with EU legislation
The Government of Ukraine expects the
Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine endorses a new redaction of the law on the Public
Prosecutor’s Office that is called to deprive prosecutor’s offices of a general
supervision function, being “a post-Soviet corruption-affected element”, Prime
Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk stressed during a visiting session of the
Government with participation of judges of the Supreme Court of Ukraine on
Monday, October 13.

“It had to be done 18 years ago,” the PM added. Arseniy Yatsenyuk has informed that the Prosecutor has no right to
interfere with life of civilians, to carry out its oversight role in relation
to citizens and business, "it's not a characteristic function and
entails corruption". "I hope that tomorrow the members of the Parliament support the
appropriate changes and, finally, the Ukrainian Constitution and the law on
Public Prosecutor's Office will become compliant with principal standards of
the European Union", said Arseniy Yatsenyuk. |
