Pavlo Klimkin: Ukraine and NATO will boost collaboration

On October 8, Foreign Minister of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin visited the NATO headquarters and met with the newly appointed Secretary General of the Alliance Jens Stoltenberg.

It was the first official meeting of the NATO Secretary General at the headquarters of the Alliance after his appointment to the post.

NATO Secretary General noted the importance of cooperation with Ukraine. He also assured in full support by the Alliance of independent, sovereign and stable Ukraine and confirmed readiness to further cooperate vigorously in order to ensure appropriate and fast implementation of the decisions taken during the NATO summit in Wales to strengthen the country’s defensive capacity in response to the aggression by the Russian Federation.

During the meeting the parties agreed a schedule of the political dialogue and main tasks of practical cooperation for the fourth quarter of 2014, as well as the provisions of the Annual national cooperation program Ukraine-NATO 2015.

Peculiar attention was paid to the joint activities aimed at strengthening the defense of our country, in particular, the activities of the NATO trust funds called to provide support to Ukraine in four areas: cyber security, logistics, communication and management systems, rehabilitation of wounded soldiers.

In this regard the parties found understanding that practice of the abovementioned trust funds should get started at the meeting of NATO Foreign Ministers that is due in December of 2014.
