Pavlo Sheremeta: Strained situation in eastern Ukraine won't hamper economic reforms
The strained
situation which the eastern Ukraine is facing doesn’t constitute a barrier to
the economic reforms within the state. The Minister of
Economic Development and Trade Pavlo Sheremeta announced
on air of Radio Svoboda [Freedom].

“Such
difficult environment appears not a bad time for the reforms, as in fact
there is no choice any more. It is unfortunate time for the economic growth
and we don’t hope for certain growth in 2014 in practice. But, with regards
to the reforms, and Georgia demonstrates rather a good example, the complicated
conditions the country faces and even, probably, certain military activities on
its territory, don’t hamper performing actions directed to deregulation and
simplifying of the business environment,” Pavlo Sheremeta
stressed. According
to the Minister, in the time of slowdown more technical laws should be introduced.
He stressed the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade suggests to the
Cabinet of Ministers and the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine new laws on
simplifying of making business, which consequently facilitate the country to
approach closer to European integration”. “Two laws
approved recently are technical ones. These are laws on standardization and
metrology enabling to synchronize our technical regulation, which in turn
gives a chance to improve export. When the situation all around the territory
of Ukraine calms down, and particularly in the East, I consider our economy
will be much better prepared to use those opportunities, the peacetime
provides,” the head of the Ministry summed up. |
