Funds saved during the presidential elections to be directed by Government to financing army

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine will direct UAH 575 million saved from holding the presidential election campaign in one round to financing the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the National Guards. The Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk informed at a Government’s session on Wednesday, June 11.

The Head of Government explained that on June 10 the President of Ukraine had appealed to the Government with a proposal to make amendments to the Law of Ukraine “On the State Budget”: “Insofar that the elections were conducted in one round, in fact we economize the funds planned for the elections of the President of Ukraine”.

The Prime Minister stressed, on the final calculations of the Central Election Commission the sum of the saved funds amounts UAH 575 million: “This is the sum we can direct to our army”.

According to him, the Finance Ministry has readied relevant changes to the State Budget.

Arseniy Yatsenyuk addressed the Government with a request to redistribute savings from the presidential elections and direct them to the reserve fund planned for financing of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the National Guards.
