"All police leadership in the Odessa region is dismissed. The new leadership should immediately restore order according to the law", Prime Minister of Ukraine A. Yatsenyuk stressed, speaking to reporters in Odessa on Sunday, May 4.

He noted that recent events in Odessa "are a part of the plan of the Russian Federation on destruction of the Ukrainian state": “Russia plans to split and destroy our country”.

"It is absolutely clear that they wanted to repeat in Odessa the scenario of eastern Ukraine, to seize state buildings. The tragic events, happened on Kulikovo Field Square and Grecheskaya Street, have actually changed their plans," Arseniy Yatsenyuk emphasized.

"Odessa has been standing firm for two months, until more people have been sent to add fuel to the flame. Odessa is very important for Russia. But it is much more valuable to us, it is our Odessa, it is our people," the Prime Minister stressed.

He said that today will be presented a new head of the Odessa Regional Department of the MIA.

The whole law-enforcement system, Security Service of Ukraine and Prosecutor General’s Office shall immediately ensure law and order," the PM emphasized, noting that he had held a meeting on the issue and given corresponding instructions.

Arseniy Yatsenyuk noted that the case in respect of the events in Odessa on May 2 took the Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine under its investigation: "Now the main investigation department of the Prosecutor General’s Office will conduct an independent investigation."

The Prime Minister appealed to NGOs, political parties and local authorities to "create a public council to monitor the investigation of these crimes."
