Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine, Minister of Regional Development, Construction, Housing and Communal Services Volodymyr Hroisman and Head of the EU Delegation to Ukraine Ian Tombinski agreed yesterday about clear coordination at all stages of implementation of local self-government reform and introduction of an effective regional policy.

Discussing the urgency of reforms related to decentralization of state administration in the country and the division of powers in the regions according to the principle of subsidiarity (granting broad powers to local communities and participation in local and national taxes), Volodymyr Hroisman expressed hope for overall support of the European Union.

Ian Tombinski assured that Ukraine will receive from the EU coordinated assistance, including support from the Special Group of Support to Ukraine, on the creation of which it was announced in Brussels. According to Ian Tombinski, the group includes 30 European representatives to assist the new Ukrainian authorities, in particular holding reforms. Group will be headed by Deputy Director General of the European Commission for Trade Peter Balazs.
