Top priority directions of cooperation between Ukraine and the Council of Europe discussed

In the framework of a visit to the Council of Europe the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andrii Deshchytsia has met with Secretary General of this organization Thorbjørn Jagland.

The participants discussed top priority directions of cooperation between Ukraine and the Council of Europe. In particular, they include urgent launch of activity of the International consultative group with participation of the Council of Europe, which also comprises a representative of Ukrainian opposition, realization of the constitutional reform in compliance with the European standards, carrying out a local self-government reform, introduction of a judicial reform and a reform of prosecution, which are intended to resume the atmosphere of trust within the Ukrainian society. The interlocutors emphasized significance to introduce an electoral legislation reform.

The Secretary General of the Council of Europe T. Jagland expressed readiness to use all existing tools and mechanisms in order to help Ukrainian Government to pass the road of reforms faster.
