Arseniy Yatsenyuk: Government expects the draft changes to the Constitution to be approved in two weeks
“We
expect the draft changes to the Constitution, which has to restore the balance
of powers and reflect the vision of every region of Ukraine and every voter,
will appear in two weeks,” the Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk said
during the Tenth Annual Investment Conference on Wednesday, April 2.
“A lot
will depend on whether the political forces are ready to real political and
economic reforms,” he stressed.
According
to the Head of the Government, it was rather difficult to receive 258
supporters in the Parliament of the package of strict economy: “The situation
with the Constitution is similar”.
Arseniy
Yatsenyuk reminded that the Government of Ukraine had already declared their
position concerning which Constitution the country needed. He informed the
previous day he had met with the head of the Constitutional Commission: “In
order to demonstrate that the Ukrainian political forces have prepared to the
political and economic changes”.
As was
reported earlier, the Government insists on changes to the Principal Law that
envisages decentralizing of power. In particular, the Cabinet of Ministers
advocates liquidation of regional and district administrations, forming of executive
committees elected by the local councils and introducing of prefect institution
to ensure general supervision over compliance with legislation on relevant
territories.
