O. Sych: Country needs balanced decisions in language legislation

Within a week the Government will decide about final vision of amendments to the Law of Ukraine "On the Principles of State Language Policy". The Ministry of Culture has received an order to next Thursday to generalize offers of central authorities concerning improvement of the language legislation on principles of implementation of integration role of Ukrainian language as the language of state-building and comprehensive protection of minority languages. This was started by Vice Prime Minister Oleksandr Sych by the result of a meeting on the preparing government bill "On the Principles of State Language Policy."

According to Oleksandr Sych, the Government not only minimizes the formalities attributed with the approval of the final text and taking into account reasonable offers, but it will coordinate its actions with an interim committee on the preparation of the bill on the development and use of languages in Ukraine at most. "We understand what role can and should play a new language law in the consolidation of public attitudes in terms of aggression. Therefore we are ready to act as transparently as possible, carefully and promptly," Vice Prime Minister said.

The governmental official ordered the State Committee for Television and Radio and the National Television and Radio Broadcasting Company of Ukraine to provide appropriate information support of the legislative process, but he also warned of representatives of the executive authorities and members of the interim commission on excessive enthusiasm of political expediency.
