A. Yatseniuk commissions to ready legal position called to protect interests of Ukraine in the process of distribution of funds and property of former USSR
The Prime Minister
of Ukraine Arsenii Yatseniuk
has commissioned the Cabinet of Ministers to ready a legal position aimed to
protect the national interests of Ukraine in the process of distribution of
funds and property of the former USSR.
Arsenii Yatseniuk
raised this issue during the Cabinet of Ministers session on Sunday, March 16.
He reminded Ukraine
had in fact completed distribution of the property in the framework of the
Soviet Union: “Ukraine has legitimate and lawful claims against the Russian
Federation concerning the property which Russia has retained illegally”.
“I request to
immediately take measures targeting to prepare the legal position in which we
will protect the national interests of Ukraine in the process of distribution
of funds and property of the former Soviet Union,” Arsenii
Yatseniuk emphasized.
It should be noted
the Verkhovna Rada has
never agreed to the so-called “zero variant” with Russia (it concerns the
Agreement between Ukraine and the Russian Federation on the succession of the
external debt and assets of the former USSR).
