Andrii Deshchytsia meets with OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities Astrid Thors
On March 3, 2014, Acting Foreign Minister of
Ukraine Andrii Deshchytsia held a meeting with OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities (HCNM),
Astrid Thors, who is on her visit to Ukraine in order
to study the current situation in our country and in the Autonomous Republic of
Crimea as well.
During the meeting the two Sides discussed the
opportunities and tools of the OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities in
resolving the current situation in Ukraine, caused by the deployment of Russian
troops on the territory of Crimea. It has been marked an important role of the
HCNM in ensuring rights of national minorities in the OSCE participating States
and conflicts prevention.
The Acting Minister also asked the HCNM to provide
expert assistance in the development of new legislation in the area of minority
rights language policy. On March 5-6, 2014, Astrid Thors is to visit Crimea.
