O. Vilkul: Thanks to rescuers, there is no victim despite high complexity of accident in Donetsk region
"59 units of
equipment and 326 employees of the State Service of Ukraine on Emergency
Situations and State Administration of Railway Transport of Ukraine "Ukrzaliznytsia" were involved in the elimination the
effects of fire due to an accident of a freight train with tanks of
propane-butane that occurred on February 2 in Krasnoarmeysk
district of Donetsk region on the rail stretch "Udachne-Mezhova".
Despite the high
complexity of the accident due to operational actions of rescuers and the
railroad workers there no victims, the accident was localized in time. As of
this morning (February 3, 2014) repair work are ongoing. In particular, 41 tanks
of propane- butane are pulled back to a safe distance, the setting cars on
rails are being continued, other 24 tanks are still have not been lifted.
Repair crews and operational group of the State Service of Ukraine on Emergency
Situations work strenuously around the clock. We make every effort to quickly
recover consequences of the accidents and ensure the safety of people," Vice
Prime Minister and Chairman of the State Commission of Technogenic
and Ecological Safety and Emergencies Olexandr Vilkul said.
He also noted the works
to eliminate consequences of blackout settlements due to bad weather. 300 teams
(1,400 employees) of power companies and 460 units of equipment are being attracted
to restore electricity.
The release from snow drifts
by rescuers of vehicles and people is continued. Currently around 5 thousand
points of heating are operating in the region.
Work continues to
restore traffic on the road, which was complicated by adverse weather
conditions.
