    In 2021, the Ministry of Infrastructure will continue to work on the modernization of regional airports. A UAH 2.4 billion resource provided for in the new state budget for the following year will be allocated for their development.

    This was announced by the Minister of Infrastructure Vladyslav Kryklii today, December 17, at a joint briefing with the head of Ukrinfraproject Kyrylo Khomyakov on the topic "Airport Development: Building in 2021."

    "The approved budget for 2021 will allow us to continue the modernization of regional airports next year. Out of the UAH 2.4 billion of total funds, UAH 1.4 billion will be directed to the construction of a new airfield in the Dnipro, UAH 1 billion - to the airports in Rivne, Kherson and Vinnytsia. In addition, another UAH 30 million has been allocated for the design of a new airport in Zakarpattia," Vladyslav Kryklii said.

    Therefore, the stage of preparatory activities worth UAH 12 million is currently being completed in Dnipro. Geodetic surveys have been carried out on the territory where the new runway will be built, trenches for electric networks and special communications have been developed, communications have been laid. Such measures were necessary to ensure that the existing runway continued to operate throughout the construction period. The environmental impact assessment procedure will also be completed by the end of the year. In parallel, a new terminal complex with a peak capacity of up to 1,000 passengers per hour is being built.

    In Kherson and Vinnytsia, the runway needs to be reconstructed, while in Rivne - the taxiway and platform. It is also necessary to install lighting and radio equipment, bring the perimeter fence in line with aviation safety requirements.

    According to Vladyslav Kryklii, the development of regional airports and domestic transportation has been determined as the Ministry's priorities for the coming years from the very beginning. "Aviation has suffered the most from the coronavirus crisis, but over time, conveyance volumes will resume. Hence, we are preparing regional airports for active work," the Minister added.

    He summed up the work of the department in 2020 in this area and shared the largest achievements in the industry. Those include:

    - completion of the 1st launch complex of the second stage of construction at the airport of Odesa;

    - start of construction works at the Dnipro airport;

    - start of preparatory work for the design of a new airport in Zakarpattia.

    In addition, Vladyslav Kryklii thanked the local authorities of Zaporizhia, which modernized the airport at their regional budget expense and opened a new passenger terminal this year.

    "We plan to start the third stage of construction in Odesa. We are now deciding on the sources of funding. Our strategy involves the modernization of 5-6 airports annually, depending on the amount of funding. Therefore, the plans for 2022 include Chernivtsi, Sumy, Poltava and Cherkasy. To ensure that in a few years most of the regional airports in Ukraine will work," the Minister added.

    It should be noted, earlier the Ministry of Infrastructure in cooperation with Ukrinfraproekt began the first stage of designing of the new airport in Zakarpattia. Currently, aerial photography and geodetic surveys have been completed, as well as possible directions for the location of runways in the villages of Seredny and Mukachevo determined.
