Born in 1982.
Education:
A graduate of the Crimean boarding school for gifted children of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, Ukraine.
Holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and a Master’s degree in Finance from the National Academy of Management.
Career:
Started his career in 2004 in technology and investment companies in the high tech and infrastructure sectors, holding various management positions.
2013 – founded the investment company ASTEM and the charity ASTEM Foundation.
2019 – elected as a member of the Ukrainian Parliament.
2020 – joined the National Security and Defence Council’s group to develop a state strategy for the de-occupation of Crimea and Sevastopol. In the same year, elected Deputy Head of the Permanent Delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.
In the Parliament, he was a member of the friendship groups with Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Israel, China, the United Kingdom, the United States, Japan and Canada. He initiated the creation of the Crimean Platform parliamentary association in the Verkhovna Rada.
Rustem Umerov is the Commissioner of the Advisory Council for Ukraine’s Cooperation with Arab and Muslim States.
From 7 September 2022 – headed the State Property Fund of Ukraine.
6 September 2023 – appointed Minister of Defence of Ukraine.
