By expanding powers of local self-governments in the field of water supply and wastewater disposal, we are delegating obligations to ensure the development of critical infrastructure and life support systems. Local authorities should  not only be responsible for housing construction, but also for the development of engineering and social infrastructure, modernization of heat and water supply systems and for the development of territories, Vice Prime Minister, Minister of Regional Development, Construction, Housing and Utilities of Ukraine Hennadii Zubko commented on the amendments approved by the Government to the Law of Ukraine "On Drinking Water and Drinking Water Supply".

He stressed that the amendments adopted encapsulate rights for drinking water supply companies to develop, and for local authorities to approve the schemes of optimization of the operation of centralized water supply and sewage systems, as well as to establish norms of drinking water supply. Among the major changes is also the provision of the right to drinking water supply enterprises to provide technical conditions for joining centralized water supply or sewage systems.

"The amendments approved will make it possible to dramatically improve the financial and economic conditions of water supply organizations,  provide consumers with high-quality and safe drinking water and improve the quality of providing services to the population, prevent emergency situations of technogenic nature, and provide environmental protection," the Vice Prime Minister underscored.
